Blurbs for Romance Books

The blurb is the most effective item you have (besides your cover) for selling you book. Is yours as good as it can be? Does it HOOK readers immediately? Does it make them ASK QUESTIONS? Does it show them the TROPES and give them a taste of your CONFLICT and STAKES? Does it leave them wanting (or NEEDING!) to know more?

It’s not an easy thing. Which is funny - we talk to writers who have no trouble whipping out over 100k words for a novel. But ask them to create a 250-word sales description, and they freeze.

Copywriting is a skill, afterall, just like long-form storytelling. And they aren’t the same skill. The good news? Both can be taught!

Your blurb consists of several very specific parts, and each part works with the others to compel would-be readers to feel like they MUST read your book! In romance, a lot of this comes from highlighting the conflict and the stakes, and leaving a question unanswered.

Our newest blurb class focuses specifically on writing blurbs for romance books. We’ll share the tips and tricks we use when we write blurbs for clients. And while this is a service we’ll continue to offer, it’s much more gratifying to teach authors how to write their own blurbs. After all, you’re not writing just one book… it’s a skill you’ll use again and again!
